Help! Tell me what to do.

STOPPPPP do not lift the top off again...just tweak the heat down a tad...It will get hotter in there the babies are getting ready to come. The humidity will jump and will the heat temp...Try and get the heat to go down to 100 just tweak the heat once wait an hour..Then see what the temp says...Always leave the top on...SOrry I had company over...ahh youll be fine just take a breather and just watch is all...

I have opened my bator to get chicks out before when everything wasnt done hatching (Not reccommended) and sprayed warm (NOT HOT) water on them. They hatched good.

Sonew, why is it so important not to open the bator after lockdown? Isn't the heat worse than opening the lid. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just am trying to learn. Lynn

Alright, I opened it and turned it down. Humidity only dropped to 61. I hope I didn't get it too low and have to keep fixing it. As long as the humidity stays pretty steady, I'm not so worried if I have to change it.

I already have. See post above. But I think it's ok because my humidity didn't go really low. I can't adjust the thermostat without opening the lid... Bright side, if the temp goes up when they are getting ready to come, then maybe we are getting close???

And how dare you have company when I'm laboring with my chicks, lol!!

Its important because the humidity helps the chicks move and rotate in the eggs ( the wetness and sliperyness inside that slimey membrane) rotate enough to get in the right position to break that airsac and pip. Now if the humidity escapes and gets lowered by lifting off the top...This will cause chicks to become shrink wrapped in the egg. The membrane will start to dry out and it makes it so much harder for the chicks to pip and zip right out of there...I can understand if its an emergency. 103 is ok because it was caught in time to be lowered. Right now Im on day 13 ish anyhoo if my temp went to 103 I would not open the top I would just simply turn the heat down a tad and wait an hour...Waiting is the hardest part but you have to be patient--the last 3 days are crucial for patience....

I know I know The whole time the family was here I was thinking oh my gosh come on people!!! LOL...I knew youd be ok...your doing great. yes tempd do go up a degree or so towards the end. If your temps have been towards the higher end of 102 your eggs will tend to hatch out a day earlier.. So I would say not tonight but on day 20 Id look for pips:-)

Everything is going to be okay
