Hi there. I hope someone can help. I have 4 hens, they are about 1 1/2 years. I have a huge area for them ( 16x8 feet) and their house is 4x4x4 feet attached to the edge of the yard. I keep their yard clean, their house clean and change their water daily. They get treats and scratch every day. Ever since my Americana had her molt the others have been picking on her, literally!! She is bald above her tail. I have not seen any pests on her and the others have all their feathers. Everyone is eating, drinking, pooping and laying normally. I dont know what to do. My friend told me to treat for mites anyway but I really do not want to use the toxic product she suggested. If this is behavior I would like to try and solve the problem. Can anyone help?

When one of mine had this happen, I spayed her with blu-cote. It covers the pink/red skin and the others left mine alone. I would treat with something if you suspect mites, I use sevin dust, then Blu-cote, if she has mites- everybody and everything must be treated.. I dust the coop/nest boxes and hens with Diamatoues Earth food grade to prevent mites and we pull the litter back twice a month and treat with a light dusting of sevin. Wear gloves, the spray will get on you!
