5mo old silkie hen..not egg laying yet. Empty crop, but eager to eat. Poop looks ok. The red is from the red Gatorade the owner gave her. She is now in my care as the owner has given up trying. And since we hit her with everything I can think of, I'm turning to help here.. She has a yellowish crust all throught her face neck wings body..but not the feet or vent. She is shiwing signs of wry neck, so I just started her on black oil sunflower seeds and hoping to get her ouside to grase on grit and weeds tomorrow.
She is wobbly on her feet, but shows sturdyness when presented with food, she gobbled up lots of sunflower seeds and raw egg when she arrived to my care tonight. I gave her a bath to clear all the poo from her hind area and do a check for bugs.. I have see both mites and lice on chickens, so I know what to looks for... But this is my 1st time seeing thia crust type skin issue.

Diet:(past 7 days) raw eggs, chick feed, Gatorade, with rooster booster.

RX:she completed 10days of "FishMox"
She had 2 doses of Ivermectin on the skin 7 days apart.
She got fluids at the vet 4days ago.
VetRX just started today, drops on her stuffed animal and slightly on beak tip.
Vasaline or mineral oil to crust on eyes to open them many times a day.

Bug checks:Night checks for mites and lice, absolutely nothing visible on vent or under wings or underside.
Checked poop for warms..nothing

She had a friend "chicken" with her when symptoms 1st showed and was brought inside for a few weeks..the other chickens have no symptoms and are thriving.

I swear I /just/ saw a case like this with another silkie maybe a month or two ago. I'm not sure how to find the original post. But that hen also had the same crusty stuff all over, mostly on her neck and face. I think the owner was going to take her to some university to get tested as everything else was ruled out. I'll tag Sourland since they've been on this site a long time and may know how to link the post.

@sourland
I was thinking the same thing. Let me see if I can find it.

I was up all night...So what I'm starting to research through many many posts years old and newer, is this is a fungal issue, secondary to potential mite infestations. Many photos match the same yellow scabs all over the body, also into the face, eyes, and ears.
So, what I have learned....picking the scabs off, NOT GOOD. As moist skin is revealed and open for fungal growth.
People have treated with vinagar baths and antifungal shampoos and Dawn dish soap.
What I'm trying to find now, is an integral method to treat body fungus, rather than constantly bathing and dipping this poor girl... Any ideas?
