Help to Identify Breed of Rescued Chicken

Hens have spurs too.

She's a hen though and indeed a Black Australorp.

Some roosters Don't have spurs or they get broke off at some point.

Wow! You guys are great resources. Thanks for all the info. I think what might have happened to her was a dog attack. Dogs seem to grab at the tails of the chickens as they run away, and if one is unfortunate enough to be caught then the damage can be brutal. I had two come into rescue last Spring. They were in terrible shape, but they survived by giving them meds, lots of time to heal, warm baths to keep them clean while their wounds healed, good food, love and attention. Fortunately this gal (I'm hoping it's a gal) only seems to have lost some tail feathers. She has no wounds that I can see anyway. She seems very strong. She's eating and drinking and pooping, so it appears the system is working. She is a cutie. Very gentle girl too. I bet she was somebody's pet. Too bad that she got away from her flock. I'm sure she misses them. My girls aren't being very accepting of her, so I have to keep her separated for now. She is getting the royal treatment right now. She even has her own heater!

LOL I thought that too. Chicken equivalent of swimming phobia: makes my feathers stand on end!

I think it looks like an australorp. Not sure if purebred or now

O. I was under the impression roosters only had spurs. I know the hens have those little bumps where the spurs are on a rooster.

I have an Australorp cross that's pure black, but all my pure Australorps are actually black with brownish chests.

I thought Australorp... but not in the greatest of conditions, poor girl.
