My ducks nest has started hatching today. I walked out and her and two other female ducks were killing the babies as they were being born. One already got killed. They threw another one out of the nest. I was able to get two eggs out of there that they were attacking that are half hatched. The babies are moving around in there and making Noises. I do not have an incubator so I put them under a heating plate in the brooder to finish hatching. Will that suffice?

I don't know............ but I've always hatched eggs in an incubator or under a bird. maybe someone else knows.

I’m not sure but I don’t think the heat plate will work because it heats by contact. I don’t think it will be warm enough for the eggs. But if they are already zipping and half out of the egg, it’s probably ok. Maybe put a blanket over the brooder to trap heat? But put a thermometer by the eggs to make sure it doesn’t overheat, plus leave an air vent

Thank you. Two ducklings have fully hatched now and another one I rescued is almost out ❤️

I would think so. I have hatched eggs out with a 40 watt reading lamp close to them, a cup of water in with it and in a styrofoam cooler with the lid on and a hole cut out for the stem of the reading lamp to be attached. Good luck. I hope that worked for you.
