Help! Two have died, third is on it's way out the door!

How is your brooder set up? Could they be too hot or cold? Sometimes a few just don't make it and you never know why. Vry sorry!

We just received an order from a different company. Our order had a bunch of standards, but we also had three bantams and they were all shipped together. After about thirty minutes in their new home we thought it would be better to seperate them from the rest of the flock (at least until they get a little bigger and stronger). That was three days ago and I'm really glad we did that. Everyone is now doing better and thriving. We thought about requesting a seperate shipping box if we ever order nore bantams again. I kinda thought the same as you that the standards were kinda beating up and bullying the much smaller bantams. Good luck with your babies!

In what conditions are you keeping them? Are they warm enough, they need to be at around 95 degrees for the first week. Very important to make sure they are drinking. Vitamin fortified water might help. Sounds like they may be stressed.

In all actuality they may be overheated if they're dying like this. How are they behaving in the brooder? Are they trying to get away from the light (too hot) or clustering underneath it (too cold)? Forget the thermometer, adjust the light until they move freely about the brooder without spending a lot of time clustered to the light or trying to get away from it. There should always be a place in the brooder for them to get away from the lamp.

They weren't clustered beneath the brooder light, or away from it...they were just all over...more so under the light, but running other places also.

The Silver Pencilled died last night. :( McMurray has agreed to refund me, thankfully. It's just so disappointing. Some of the birds I wanted most are dying, I gave the extras to my brother, I'm sorry I acted so hastily now. B/c now he has a sweet deal of free birds that I paid for. He's kind enough to give me my blue silkie back though, and would have given me more but I couldn't take more than that. At this point..I'm glad enough to have two silkies.
I'm disappointed with this, honestly. I hope my next order will be better.

@ Brads030 - Next time I do get bantams and standards I'm going to separate them and see how they do.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
