What's the temperature where you are???

A nice 14F at the moment. It was cold last week. "Cold" for me is less than -20C/-14F. That's when it starts getting bothersome, with exposed skin, electronics, vehicles (our snowmobile broke because of the cold, how ironic is that? Haha), the well etc.

We'll have a few days of ok temps, before a few more days of cold...

What I REALLY want is a monday-friday around 0C, warm enough for eggs to be shipped in the mail! I probably have to wait until March for the eggs I ordered in January to arrive.

Monday 9th of February 9.51a.m. That thunderstorm finally rolled in this morning and is giving us some nice, steady rain after mostly dizzle yest. Wind is 0 here but reading 24kph NNW at the beach. Hg 71%, 21C / 69.8F.

Moon is 50%

A grand solar minimum is a prolonged period of significantly reduced solar activity, characterized by fewer sunspots and solar flares, which can last for decades or even centuries. Historical examples include the Maunder Minimum and the Dalton Minimum, both of which coincided with cooler climate periods on Earth.

But we are in a solar maximum at the moment, hence the splendid Auroras we experienced. Those occur approx every 11 yrs.

I don’t think o can handle it any colder this winter! Hard on my old body as well as the livestock!

Ooooo shipped eggs! Eggciting, what breeds?
I have a couple dozen chicks on order, sharing an order with someone else, I will drive to pick them up about mid April. Sure hope it’s nicer weather then.

Icelandic chickens! I got some Icelandic hens last year, and I love them, they're a lot of fun, naturally tame, not all the same color and very hardy. Therefore I decided to have only those and breed pure. I've always been a backyard mix'er, so breeding actual breeds is new to me. haha!

I specifically asked the breeder for eggs from rosecombs. Some of the hens I already have, have huge combs, very susceptible to frostbite. My goal is to breed a small-comb-only line.
