HELP urgent egg that is making noise!

OK egg still in paper towel, in normal towel with the top slightly open and a cup of hot water in a 38 degree oven. Am I good - should I give it a chance now? AFter reading the article it says some can take up to day 25 and be OK so I don't want to jump the gun!

Doubting myself - worried it is going to run out of air - maybe I should open a tiny hole

except I can't see anything at all when I tried to candle it which is what the article says to do and to draw the air cell on. I have left it since last posted and listened just now and no noise. Presuming they need to rest / sleep a bit?

Don't worry, she saw you placing the egg under her! Put it under her wing carefully from the side, keep your hand round the egg to avoid her seeing it . Put a few chick crumbs down before you try this should distract her.

Leave the egg if she pushes it out she will likely put the egg back herself after you've gone away. As she is still sitting she is still wanting to hatch any eggs, that's good!

If you feel you must provide heat for the egg don't use direct heat, i.e. heat pad, use a heat lamp. The egg doesn't need water, in any form, this could prevent hatching as the chick will not be able to perforate the inner membrane. If the membrane is too damp the chicks beak will slide about and not go through the membrane. The egg will be ok for a few hours, keep it warm until you can get it in an incubator.

Careful if you try and take the shell off as it will cause bleeding if the membrane has not dried.

I would put the egg back under the hen, give the hen several small bits of bread and push any spread out nesting material back and leave her to get on with it.

i'll look back later. Have 4 hens with chicks, all laid away, been doing some juggling with eggs and chicks. One chicken hatched eggs on the garage roof, in ivy, chicks had to jump down! Freaks you first time you see it! Don't worry you'll manage well!

Update, I decided to open the air cell end as I was so concerned that there was no sound and that it had potentially run out of air. I could see the little beak (quite a way in from my hole) through the membrane kind of bobbing up and down but not enough to hit the outer shell. I put it back in the oven for a bit and then just got it out to check and I can see it's little body breathing now. My issue is that the membrane looks a bit wrinkled but it is white. is that normal /OK? I just dont' think I'm keeping the humidity up enough (I think the oven has a fan) but I'm worried putting the paper towel over will stop it breathing

You can carefully apply a tiny amount of olive oil or coconut oil to the membrane to keep it from drying out.

Don't worry about the chick running out of air, the shell lets in air. You could try loosening a small amount of the white dry membrane from around the head. Leave any damp membrane as that will bleed! Stop if it starts to bleed! I'd still put it back and let Mom take care, may take a minute or two for her to start. Don't stay around as it could put Mom off! Oven sounds a bit precarious! Don't worry, we've all been there and your learning! x

If it hatches, don’t be surprised if there is something wrong with the chick. That’s usually why they are late in hatching. Not always, but I don’t want you to be caught off guard.
