When my snake had a prolapsed colon years ago, the vet told me to apply KY jelly to the area and use a thermometer to reinsert it. Just thought I'd offer that idea. You and your vet will figure it out. Keep him away from other ducks who might bite at it.

Hello Thank you so much for your concern. Onyx is doing the same. The prolapse is not better....

I have been giving him his medicine (not easy thing to do as his bill is super long) and keeping him inside, clean and mosturized. I tried to reinsert the prolapsed organ twice and to hold it in for a while in case it might help to put it back in place, but every time he has a bowel movement it comes right back out.
I will take him to our regular vet on Thu, to see if he could operate on him. The first vet was a avian vet, but specializes in exotic birds, not ducks! Also the price I go quoted for the surgery (more than $800) is more than I can afford right now, so hopefully my other vet can do it for a more reasonable amount. I refuse to give up on Onyx, and I will do anything it takes go get him better.
more news to come...

Sorry to hear that he is not better. I have found some info for you.

Cloacal prolapse is also contributed to by uterine or cloacal infection that makes the area irritated and causes straining, resulting in expulsion of the cloaca. Therefore, it is standard to give these birds antibiotics in case of infection. If a prolapse is exposed to the air for any length of time, infection is almost certain to develop, and with time the tissue dries out which causes further irritation and more straining -end result bigger prolapse.

I've been dealing with a chicken's prolapsed cloaca for the last little while and the biggest help I found was unpasteurized honey...it's surprising how well it works! It has big healing properties-seems to reduce swelling, a natural antibiotic, and is sticky enough to stay on. It won't counteract with anything the vet gave you, so no downside. With my hen I did gentle hydrotherapy with a kitchen spray hose, patted dry with a paper towel, and applied honey all over the affected area, twice a day. Hope it helps...

Hi everybody

@crazybarnlady Honey sounds like a GREAT idea! BTW he is on both antibiotics and antinflammatory orally. Topically I have been putting KY gel, and keeping it clean with aloe wipes. yesterday after reading all the old posts though I though about a herbal ayurvedic skin soothing balm I have that is wonderful, so last night I start applying that. I really do not think KY has any medicinal proprety!!!!
So today I am going to try the honey and we will see...although I have abad feeling, because it already strts to look blackish, even it is not dry.
well thank you again..the adventure continues!
