My answers to the questions from the "Read First" post.Upload some pictures of her as she is now, and of how she's acting. If you have a video, you can post on another site and link it here. Also check out the intro/pinned post on this Forum, there's a lot of questions in there that it would be helpful if you could answer. I have a lot of questions (mostly the pinned questions) and hope we can help your girl.
1)What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
- She is a Barred Rock, a year and a half. I don’t know her weight but doesn’t feel thin or light.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. - She is completely lethargic. My chickens don’t let me pet them, but this one doesn’t move away at all.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? - Since 7:00 this morning
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? - No other birds exhibiting any sines of distress
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. - No obvious trauma at all.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. - Totally in the dark
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. - Grange Coop Layer feed, dried black soldier fly larva, cracked corn. Water. As of this morning, eating and drinking nothing.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. - I have seen one yellow runny poop in the box.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? - Offered sugar water, scrambled egg, and her bugs. She drank one time independently and again when I put her beak in the water. She then since turned away from the food and water.
10) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? - I have no vet to go to. I have to do this on my own.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. - Posted already
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use - I use GEM Softwood flakes. Last week, I used a product I bought from my local Ace store when I asked “pine shavings”. When I put it in the coop, I noticed it didn’t smell like pine. The next day, I placed the odor as cedar. My bag said it had “spruce, hemlock, pine, and other soft wood” in it. I removed all that and put in the GEM which is made up of mainly Doug Fir.
