My husband made this feeder following directions we found online. Looks like it would work great for us, and it saves space for our city chickens, and keeps the food dry in their little run. We installed it yesterday, and noticed they were wasting a bit of food on the ground. Came home today to 5+lbs of food on the ground, and the feeder empty. I think they are just scratching it out. Any ideas on how to modify the feeder so it will function better?

Put a 45 deg "T" in place of the original 90 deg you have in there now angle it up so they have to reach down in to get the food. This should help with the food falling out. I built a feeder out of a water softener with four ports for feeding I lose no feed now. Works great and holds a ton of food.

If we replace the part, we won't have a cover over the opening anymore and rain will get in their food. Any ideas to fix that?
