Help, Very Sick Silkie

How many chickens do you have? They recommend like 3 drops if giving them directly from the dropper into their mouth but since I have 50+ chickens, I add a whole dropperful to the moistened chick feed that I mix up for them.

Sorry about the silkie~

Might wanna take the silkie to the county extension vet examiner for nacropsy. Usually costs 10-15 dollars.

For now, you gotta cover your bases....

What I would do for the rest is clorox the waterers real good to get them super clean. Change the bedding. Antibiotics is a must.... Then fresh water w/ wormer drops. Also, sprinkle 7dust

around the coop in case it was a brown recluse or widow. And be sure to check around to see if there were any bad plans for her to snap up. Then relax if possible.

I am ALL for feeding good alf. hay to my birds with NO issues...even chicks. I prefer other greens but when I dont have them avail they get hay or even soaked hay cubes which they love. If the diet is working for your other birds dont change it just because of one loss. I do try to limit corn intake (corn at least to me seems to be a bigger propogator of mold than hay is...they will waste corn, but not hay)
I agree it does sound like wry neck or even injury, but that doesnt explain the runny poop unless she was off on her feed.
Sorry for your loss.

But dont panic till you see another bird go down.

I have one silkie left so what would u recommend fr antibiotics and what dosage?
Thanks

I am unsure about the antibiotic dosage but I give mine the vitamins daily right now. I will probably decrease that as the weather warms up and they are able to forage outside.
So, is your remaining silkie all alone now? Is it a boy or girl? You might want to consider a buddy for him or her once you are sure they will be OK. Poor little thing lost his only buddy! I hope your remaining silkie will be OK!

thanks, its a girl and I wish I had bought 3 at the beginning in case this happened!
I am definitely going to get some more, I have put a post in one of the other forums trying to see if there is anyone local ideally on long Island that would sell me pullets as I am not looking to get chicks.

Oh, I hope you can find some close to you! I have younger silkies but not many older ones. I am sure you will be able to find some friends for your little girl and I am so sorry you lost your other girl. It is hard especially when you don't know exactly what might have caused it.

thanks very much, it is a challenge on Long Island trying to find them so cross your fingers!
