Hi,

I got two baby chicks approximately one week ago (Sat 4/12), both hatched that morning. Millie, the blue laced red Wyandotte, weighs 79 grams today but Yuki, the French black copper marans, only weighs 54 grams. Yesterday she weighed in at 55 grams. The previous three days she was 49 grams each day. It seems like she is not really putting on weight. I’ve tried giving her scrambled eggs and live mealworms. Millie gobbles up much of it though. But Yuki did love the mealworms yesterday, and this morning-now she won’t eat them and I’m getting worried. Any thoughts? I’ll post a pic of them too (Yuki on left, Millie on right).

As long as they are eating, drinking, and behaving like normal chicks, I would not be worried. I assume you are feeding them chick starter. If not, that is what I would do.

Oh yeah, they’ve been on chick starter since day one. Thank you

yes, she is acting like a normal chick-just not putting on a lot of weight.
and this morning she is not making any noise (while Millie makes soft peeping noises pretty regularly) and not eating, and is sleeping a lot while standing up

They looked healthy in the picture :jumpy
Here’s a pic from this morning. She’s just sleeping while standing up a lot, not making any noise, not really eating anymore

She doesn't look normal in this photo. I would maybe treat for coccidiosis. I've had that happen with chicks before but not that young. I'm no expert, just someone who has raised chickens for a long time.

So the chick starter I have them on is medicated for coccidiosis. Is there anything else I should do to treat her?

I had an issue once with chicks long ago and I believe I used Corid which was added to their drinking water.
