I'd say it looks like it's yolks in the big end near the air cell... So, from experience - if it's in a hatchable position - it should pip at the smaller end of the egg at below the higher side of the pencil line.

So hes going to pip on the wrong side?? I have to wait for a bruise and hope and pray I catch it in time? (My 1st time, I'm truly terrified and just wondering)

Well... I had 11 Modern Game Bantam eggs hatch - over half at the wrong end. I watched them closely because when I cracked the dud eggs the membrane was THICK, like rubber. They were shipped, I just knew they were going to be all over the shop.

Anyway, the first one pipped into the air sack late at night. By morning I saw that 2-3 had pipped at the wrong end by themselves.. but they hadn't broken the membrane, so I quickly sliced is so they could breathe. And since that is the most important thing for them to do after pip I just left them, resisted helping for the most part - and they unzipped just fine.

But one I had to break the shell because I could hear this awful noise coming from the egg. I saw the bruise and knew its beak was there. The noise stopped straight away - it was like this rasping, breathing noise.

There was 2 that died in the shell; they were in a completely un-hatchable position. All the others hatched in the 2 positions.

The 11 are all healthy; one and a half months old now.

Ok, thanks. This duckling is the sole survivor. Her mom sat on her for 3 weeks & literally just changed her mind 1 morning. I did notice tho, that the others had hairline cracks on them, I believe the drake did this??? And I'm sure that's why they never either fully developed, or continued developing,. But shes been in there wiggling since. Shes a fighter. But lastnight & its morning shes not moving so much, as much.....but I'm thinking that its because shes so cramped?? Not really sure, but..... this one is my special baby. I've had her in the incubator since & my days are 24/7 baby duckling.

If it is in a position to pip the shell it will most likely be able to. If it's beak can't reach the shell... It will most likely die. I did everything to try and help the two that died. Once I did an eggtopsy it was clear why they died.

If it pips, it should fully pip at the wrong end.
