HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

You know if your out at the barn at night and the bear comes around and it attacks you and you shoot it... I would say 100% chance you would not get in trouble for killing it.

A destructive bear has learned a habit that I don't believe can be unlearned in the wild. It is kind of like hikers throwing their packs when they see a bear on the trail because of course the bear wants the food in the back pack and will distract it enough to allow them to get away. In the end they are teaching the bear that all it needs to do is walk up to people and they'll throw it a bag with food inside.

If it were me, there'd be one less bear in the area. If it will go into a coop it could easily make it into my house due to the way that it is constructed.

Get a fence charger and spool of wire. That should keep the bear at bay until you can dispatch or the DNR can trap it and move it. The fence would be a good idea anyway even if the DNR moves it. If the area around your place can support this bear, it can support another and probably will over time.

I don't know if I would waste my time shooting a bear with anything that wasn't powerful enough to kill it. it might make it angry and it tear out more than your hen house's door...know what I mean???? Call the game warden A.S.A.P

Yep, I'm not the shooting type...I like bears just fine, just don't want him THIS close to my house! I'm calling shortly.

Hopefully you got the electric fence up and contracted the DNR. Lots of loss for you to contend with. He will just keep returning to the sourse of easy food, either protect with electric, relocate,or have it dispatched.

I agree about it not being far off to make it into the house. Our coop ain't pretty but it is pretty much built just like our house. I've always thought that bears were a bit more relaxed. I've got a crazy one!
