We are extending our chicken coop. The original is an old playhouse that I've secured. It's worked and is a good size but we want to make it bigger because while summer is fine some winters we get snow and we get tons of rain some years. I want to have it big enough in case the girls have to be locked up for a day. So our current coop is 5x5. We are planning on extending back to that metal pole (using it as extra support) about 4.5 feet and 5 ft wide. We are also using that metal pole to help angle the roof so that any rain will fall down. The only thing screwed in so far are those 4x4s. We have them attached into the cement. Everything else is just laying there while we plan. So any suggestions? I'm not sure if I want to leave the bottom open because I would hate if they layed eggs under there but IF I leave it open we will cover it with hardware cloth.
Also want to add it's for 7 production blues (RIR and australorp mixes.) We are also going to remove that back panel of the playhouse and attach to that.
