Help! Welsummer or brown leghorn ?

Well I would guess they are welsummers, they have too much red to be brown leghorns.

You have 2 of something and the one odd bird out, the more red one, is something else.

The two are very poorly colored if they are either Welsummer or Brown Leghorn. I think it more likely they are production reds or a Welsummer/Production Red mix (I had a Wellie mix that looked like that).

One, the more solid red bird, looks to be a rooster (I think I see saddles) and is a production red...which is what I am inclined to think your birds are.

However, hatcheries are known for poor coloring, so it is possible you could have hatchery quality Welsummer (if red ear lobe) or Brown Leghorn (if white ear lobe).

But again, the coloring is far too red/orange on too much of the body to be a standard Welsummer (salmon chest for female, brown partridge with gold penciling on back) or Brown Leghorn (more brown-gold on chest, brown partridge with gold penciling on back).

Welsummers have golden hackles, darker brown bodies, and salmon chests (pretty sure they refer to this as "wildtype?"), and same goes for Brown Leghorns. The two can only be distinguished by red vs. white earlobes, smaller vs. larger combs, terra cotta eggs vs. white eggs - after maturity, of course. :) That's how similar they are in appearance. Your other two chooks are far too "red" to be either breed.

Thanks so much! I'm new to this and I've been researching both breeds but they look the same to me! What would the others be if they'e not welsummer or leghorn?

You're so welcome! They are certainly alike. :D

I tend to agree with what @Lady of McCamley said. :) Production Reds or a cross seems to make the most sense for the others. :D

No because the employees don’t know either.
You have to do research on what the chick breeds you want look like before you even go down there lol.
I was lucky because I got Turken chicks and they’re pretty obvious.
