Help went to clean the coop this morning and found white slimy stuff in the coop hanging

Hello all. I may have another probkem. One of my hens has not laid for 5 days. She normally lays every other day. Her comb is nice and red, she is eating All 4 of my hens are scratching. I tried to check them I do not see any thing red. I read you can mix garlic juice, water, and a essential oil and spray then twice a week. And for the coop 2 cups water, 1 cup of cooking oil, 1 tabl[/e spoon of dish soap. Has anyone tried this? I also Read they could be molting coukd all 4 be moulting? Thank you in advance for your help.][/B]

Sometimes hens will stop laying if it gets very hot. Just keep an eye on her for any signs of internal laying.

I'm not sure why you provided the details for the garlic spray...was that for parasites or something? There seems to be a logic step missing.

I read about that for mites. My hens are really scratching a lot. I read you can spray that on them to kill mites. I added that to see if anyone else heard about that. May I ask what internal laying is? Thank you for your help

You should picks up your hens and inspect for mites...pay careful attention to the scales of the legs to see if the are raised up, look around the vent feathers, under the wings and around the eyes and ears. Look for mites, but also look for mite poop which will be black specks. Those are the most popular places for mites to hang out on a chicken. There is a type of mite that lives in cracks in the wood of the coop and comes out at night to bite them, so if you are spraying then spray the cracks and joints of the coop too.

For really bad infestations, you can spray the natural treatments on your birds, but for the coop get the serious stuff: Atroban 11%

And if they are molting you would know it. Their feathers fall out and they are bald and patchy until their new feathers grow in.

Their skin would remain healthy looking under molting conditions, so if they are losing feathers and they have scaly red patches or sores, and the bases of their remaining feathers look dirty, then they probably have mites.

They are loosing a few feathers, but not any areas are bald. They just are scratching a lot.

If they are scratching a lot they may have lice/mites as you suspect.

You can try the garlic mixture I never have used it, I have read about it and it may work - I just have not used it.

If you have an infestation or see them on your hens, if you are in the US you can also use Poultry Dust - this is found at the feed store and contain permethrin.
Repeat in 7days to kill any nits that may hatch.

You will need to clean out your bedding/coop as well.

If you use the garlic mixture and the oil/water solution for your chickens, let us know how well it works, I am always interested in hearing what works/doesn't so I can pass that along

The oil, water is for the coop. Said it will suffocate the mites.
