@sunflour is correct, replace the chicken wire. Chicken wire is fine for keeping chickens in but doesn't do much to keep anything else out...it's just not strong enough.

I agree. Replace that chicken wire with something stronger. What you replace it with needs to be matched to your varmint, but 1/2" hardware cloth, if you can handle the expense, repels most of them. For really large areas, 1" x 2" welded wire is a good choice, but know that rats and weasels can probably get through that. So the trade off is large area vs. tight coop.

BTW, it's not rats. They would just crawl through it.....or tunnel under it.

Agreed.
A rat could easily fit through the chicken wire without disturbing it.
