Help!! What Happened to My Chicken???

My little chick Light was fine in the morning and when I came to check in all of the chickens, I saw her running around like normal, but she had a huge red bloody spot on her head. What might have happened to her and what can I do to help it?

She was pecked by the other chickens.
Separate her from the others for now, because they will keep pecking her.
Clean the wound with soap and water, rinse with saline or Vetericyn, and when dry, apply antibiotic ointment.
As bad as it looks, she should heal up pretty quickly.

I’m dealing with something similar. My older hen was practically scalped by my roosters. I have pulled her, put antibiotic ointment on it and let it heal. I hope to find something to cover her neck to protect it so I can let her back out with her family.

Any kind that doesn’t have painkiller in it

Keep her separate until completely healed... then work on a slow integration when she’s ready to go back.

I would apply a few times a day it as you feel necessary. Once it’s starting to scab over you don’t have to apply it anymore and can just let her heal naturally. In the meantime I would give her scrambled eggs (no seasoning) for extra protein to aid in the healing process.
