Help! What happened to my egg??

Check for mice. We had a mouse that had gotten under a hen and eaten her eggs

I haven’t seen a mouse, but that’s not to say there wasn’t one I suppose. I wonder if that would explain the random shells I’ve been finding.... I found a half empty shell a few days ago, looked like it had been zipped but no residue in it. But all my eggs were still accounted for. Then 2 days ago I think I found the pic below. A brown shell wrapped around a green egg. I’m so baffled.

Horrible for you to find that, and so close to hatch day.
Mice were a big problem for me. I'm sure it was the mice that somehow managed to keep rolling eggs out of the nesting boxes.
I kept finding tiny scratch marks on the eggs too.

It’s kinda discouraging honestly. I wonder how they would know it’s a bad egg..... interesting.

Don’t be discouraged! The joy of seeing chicks makes up for the disappointment of the losses. I hear hens have ultraviolet vision, but that’s all I know.
