Are her eggs normally hard or has she been laying soft-shell/shell-less eggs?
I'm wondering if she is trying to expel a soft shell egg or she may still have some yolk/whites that she is trying to get out. I have a girl that does this occasionally.
Provide her with some poultry vitamins and extra calcium - Poultry Nutri-Drench if you have it (1cc per 3lbs). Crush a TUMS and sprinkle it over a scrambled egg. See if she will eat the egg with calcium and drip some of the vitamins on the egg. Do your best to get her hydrated.
Sometimes a soak may help, but if it stresses her, then leave it off for a while.
To answer your question - ""Inside the vent...does it split up and down? It seems like I can only go downish"" Yes, it does somewhat make a split - up would be the oviduct and down is the intestines.

Thank you for replying...No we haven't had a soft shell in a while and none recently. I am apparently unprepared in terms of a chicken first aid kit because I don't believe I have any chicken vitamins. I had some when they were babies, but I can't seem to locate it. Dang, I haven't had any issues with them this past year, and the last couple of days three of them have had some sort of issue, this one being the most serious. I'm sure the heat is not helping.
I have been giving her some calcium carbonate, though she is not very interested in eating anything. I'll continue to try to hydrate her.
I did talk to an emergency vet with some chicken experience, and she thought it best to keep her in the dog crate hospital inside overnight, and call her if things got worse. Right before I brought her inside she did seem more interested in walking around. I'll get some preparation H for her and give her a little vaseline lube then see how she does I guess.
Thank you.
