Yes old english game, full size, one of the red strains, Best mother around. Yes she should be around top of the pecking order with RIR.

Same hens I use for setting eggs. They come with yellow and green legs

all anyone can really say at this point is "Game Chicken" because there are so many strains of gamefowl that fit the pictures of her. They come in all kinds of comb types, all colors, all leg colors, etc. The way you tell she is a game chicken is by the body structure.
They are the most athletic birds in chickendom.

[/IMG][/IMG]Help! We bought 3 Rhode Island Reds. Love them! Sweet girls! We also have 2 more chicks and I can not figure out what breed they are. Small pea combs just barely growing at 2 months old. They are a bit jumpy but sweet once we get ahold of them. We took them to the feed store when they were about a month old and they said American game. Here are current pictures

Not sure what your chicks are Angie, maybe just crosses; I can't answer yet as to whether they are pure American game, but I can say now confidently I believe that they are not pure if they are American Game. The cockerel for sure to me looks to have some type of heavy breed in him, can't say what though as of now.

Right now, they resemble no breed (at least pure.) This may change with age though. If you got them from a feed store, most of the time they order from hatcheries and if you can figure out which hatchery it may help find out the breed by process of elimination.

If you got them from someone.. It could be anything, pure or crossed.

The Reds we did get from a feed store. Definitely different demeanors!! The two I posted is Sassy & pepper. Pepper is the slightly smaller one. Sassy is clearly in charge! As I thought sassy was a hen. I'm new to this.. His/ her legs are thicker, sharper nails , neck is much longer and she holds it higher. More curious and observant as well. She/ he did look different from the other 3 and was the smallest but is growing at a rapid rate compared to pepper. Also has a touch of purple in feathers. She has short wings and barely any tail feathers. The comb just started coming in but is more prominent then pepper. Sassy is turning very dark and pepper is a red/ brown color. I did get them from a home. I believe it's a place they are fighting the roosters:( we lost one to mareks . So I will never not buy from a feed store again! I just need to wait tell he/she grows a bit more?sassy does look like a cockerel ?Thank you so much for your help !

It's interesting you say Easter egger. While I have been looking at each breeds adult and baby. Hoping to come across something ! I did double look at Easter egger. Also have figured some kind of game. With the help of you guys I realize they are mixed so i may never know.... I did try to contact the guy I bought them from but of course no response. It was definitely a impulse buy. I do love the two very much and am glad they are a part of our zoo:)!! I am going to go say good morning to them and try to get a better picture.
