So long story short I was given a fetal duck egg from a classmate from a vietnamese market to cook and eat the fetus as a dare (a "balut" egg is a delicacy in their culture). Instead ive been holding it in my hand, bra, shirt, etc for the past week keeping it warm. I have no expirience with this, (im a 19 year old city girl from southern california and ive never even seen a fertilized egg) Its air sac was at the large end but now has gotten larger and moved onto the side a little bit. it almost has an angle to it. is this because my dog rolled it around the other day when i wasnt looking?

I just want to make sure that this isnt going to affect the fetus.
Can use all the help I can get. Thanks guys!

The human body's core temperature is a bit too cool for incubating an egg. The air cell is supposed to be at the fat end. It should be kept flat or fat end up. After day ten, the air sack is supposed to start sloping.
This article has everything you could possibly need to know when it comes to eggs and the hatching of them. The only difference in incubating chicken eggs versus duck eggs is that duck eggs need slightly more humidity.

Lol, that's too funny. Sick & sad but also funny. I'd live to know if you get this duck to hatch! I read a story recently about duck eggs being put back into an incubator after sitting out for two days. A majority still hatched. A week is a really long time I'm sorry to say but get a heat lamp & give it a go. Maybe water candle it in some warm water first to make sure you aren't carrying around a stinker. Good luck!!! You have the heart for it!

YAYYY! We have a beautiful little duckling! He ended up not having enough humidity while trying to zip so after 2 days of waiting i helped him out and there was no blood; hes looking healthy as can be and chirping away!

I grabbed some starter duck feed today at the store so once his umbilical cord dries and detaches from the egg i think he'll be able to eat! Thank you guys so much for all your help and advice on this crazy egg situation!

Oh, I'm glad he made it out okay! He will need to be kept warm under a heat lamp - and he will need water...LOTS of it. Please search around here on BYC and you'll find a ton of information on how to raise them. BEst of luck!! Post some pictures!
