We didn't get whatever it was.
and in the morning it had dug a huge run under the wire we put under the chooks' enclosure.
I doubt it's a fisher then... But I don't have much experience with large mammaly things cos out here in the wilds of Lincolnshire, the biggest predators are foxes and buzzards
. I am leaning towards a released ferret though, because there is a regularly used country road that goes past our house, and a forest almost next door. (Perfect place to release an unwanted pet.)
How would a ferret kill? because the quail that we found in it's 'larder' under the barn door had no heads and the feathers on their necks had been plucked out. So so sad...
And also does anyone know what a ferrets burrow looks like? the one in our 'soil heap that's meant to be a hill' has one main entrance and three small exits, with a run type thing under the chicken coop. It hasn't had a go at the Cream Crested Legbar sisters yet though...even though it dug into the run while they were in. It's like a game of Cluedo... I think it was Mr Ferret with the teeth in the chicken coop.
TY everyone, I hope we are getting closer to catching the cheeky blighter.
