Went to the barn yesterday morning to find both of my 5 month old blue slate tom turkeys had what looked like dried up blood on their heads. I thought that they got in a fight. When i got closer to them the blood looks like its under the skin like little bruises all over.None of the other 19 turkeys are having this problem. They are eating, drinking and acting normal. Today one looks alittle worse it is still eating and drinking but it walks around away from the other turkeys shaking its head almost like his snood is bothering him.(if that makes any sense)Also his head is turning a darker blue/purple color.I have spent alot of my day looking on the internet trying to find out what might be going on but have found nothing.please help me. THANKS

Not sure, but you might look up Blackhead desease in Turkeys. Are they kept with chickens?

Symptoms:Depression.
Inappetance.
Poor growth.
Sulphur-yellow diarrhoea.
Cyanosis of head-blood under the skin-purplish

Progressive depression and emaciation

I only had this happen once when I kept my Turkeys with my chickens before I knew this desease existed. Some people keep Turkeys, and chickens together, and never have this problem. I was unfortunate, and did.

Hasn't been to cold here the last couple of days, and they have been kept in the barn so no wind.Today is the first day i have let them freerange in over a month cause last time they were out all 21 of them decided to visit the neighbors. They have not been kept with chickens for about 2 months but were before that.I looked into blackhead disease but they haven't lost any weight and are eating and drinking normally. They don't seem to act depressed, not yet anyways. When your turkeys had it did they look like mine do?Thanks

Thanks for all the replys.I hope its nothing serious,i am really attatched to all 21 of my turkeys and would be heartbroken if it is something that would wipe out my entire flock.Probably need to get rid of some of the toms if they are already fighting and it isn't even breeding season yet.
