And yes, they are clueless. I look and admire, but have never bought any there. We have a really nice local feed store that will order me whatever I want and add it to the orders they place. Very nice deal.

Silkies. Here's my Silkie hen with her 5 chicks that are a few days old. Silkies make great broody hens and great mother hens.

I thought they may be Silkies, and even asked the lady if they may be. Her response was, "No, they've never sent me Silkies before". I saw the box that the chicks had come from and checked the hatchery's website. They don't appear to have any feather legged, five toed, fluffy headed chicks at all. Hmmm, maybe it shall remain a mystery.

On the plus side, there are 2 places within about 10 miles from where I live that have told me they will order chickens for me and have them sent with their shipments. The first place, where I bought my first 3 pullets, is being a bit difficult. The other place has told me they would be happy to get me whatever I want, as long as they are able to get them from their supplier. Unfortunately Silkies only come straight run, as do many other breeds that I may be interested in. Since I don't want roosters, I have been hesitating to order any straight run. At this point, I think I'll have to order a few extra and hope that some of them are pullets. Then, if I have any roosters, I can try and find them suitable homes. I would be happy to give them to anyone as long as they would have safe homes.
