Hi guys, sorry for the dramatic title, but I'm not sure what to do about this little one. This is my first time hatching chicks, and this little dude was the first one to make it out (we now have 8...and 3 others have pipped).
Once the feathers had all dried we noticed some sticky guck left on its backside. Took the hands-off approach and figured it would go away after a while. Later transferred all hatched/dried chicks into their brooder and they all seem calm and happy under their Titan brooder. Late last night the dried up/plastered stuff was still there so I dipped a very soft, new (clean) toothbrush in warm water and tried to gently brush it off. Dried him/her off and put her back under the brooder. This morning, no better. Used the 'chicken chick' pasty-butt remedy/method and let some lukewarm water run down its back for a minute, then a gentle blow-dry. It isn't any better at all! It's as if NONE of it has come off. I'll post a photo soon.
It's been about 30hrs since s/he hatched and I'm worried the others will start pecking at it, or it might mess up the growth of the feathers? Anybody had this experience before?
Thanks for you help!
