Help with 5 month orp pullet possibly sick? BAD UPDATE-SEE LAST POST

Got poultry dust, and am on my way out to restrip their little coops AND I think I will empty out and redo the Delaware coop as well, then dust all the birds whether I see anything or not. The people at the feed store said I need to sprinkle it on the dump pile also.

Egad I feel crawly!!!!! Yuck.

The one good thing is that Desiree is not fighting me, and actually seems to realize I am trying to help her- I went nose to nose with her to smell her breath and she looked me right in the eye and stayed perfectly still -

And, thank you so much for helping me, Cyn, Kathy, Cetawin- you don't know how much I appreciate the quick response- you are wonderful friends!

to all of you!

Whew- the Orps are done- do I need to keep her separated since I have dusted them all AND laced their bedding with poultry dust? And how soon should I expect her to perk up? A few days? I will keep giving her scrambled egg and poly vi sol- probably the other orp girls too- I still can NOT see a single mite on any of them-

Cyn, if you want some, my feed store has several kinds- I took the one the owner recommended-it has permathrin or however you spell it in it- anyway, I can send you some if you want it on hand.

Off to do the Dels- sheesh, I am just anticipating what Luke and Ultrasuede are going to think about the indignity of having their bottoms dusted!

Yup- I got a little knee high ph and cut it down, puffed everyone.

I just checked Desiree and can't find a mite on her, and I looked in all the places where I saw numerous mites- does it work that swiftly? She is still very quiet- I wrapped a cold pack and put in with her as she is panting, making her more scrambled egg as I write.

I think it works really fast. If I use a bug spray (or powder) around the foundation of the house .... that works really quickly. I am guessing it would be the same scenario.

Just be sure to repeat the application in a week, as eggs are hatching.

I am wondering if there is also something else- she is refusing the scrambled egg and grapes, which she loves, and she ate egg this morning, and the head twitching is back- that would be neurological, right?

Crapola! I was hoping it was simply mites-

I did look at the roof of her mouth, it looked normal, just those teeny weeny little pink bumps in a row that they all have- no lesions that I can see.

Yay glad you figured it out. Poultry dust works pretty fast, just makes sure she got dusted really good. Repeat it in a week.

I would keep her isolated and watch her, she has been weakened so she needs the exta care and you can at least insure that the eggs and such do not get back in the coop or on the other girls. I thought you stated you had just gotten her, if so, she came with them most likely.

Just a little info for you...Mites or acari are a member of the Arachnida family. So when you are trying to kill them, think along the lines of a microscopic spider. The dust should get em. I have the spray version around at all tiems just in case, so far no need to spray anyone.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was alive at 7:00- I came in, posted, ate something quick and then I heard Luke and Ultrasuede screaming their heads off- I ran out, and they were opposite her carrier yelling like mad men- she is dead. They stopped yelling the minute I went to her. My good boys were letting me know.

There must have been something internal, like Cyn said. I don't think botulism could have taken her that fast, could it? I watch and play with these kids daily- several times a day - she was normal until yesterday late afternoon.

I HATE this- what am I doing wrong???

Beth, you didn't do anything wrong! I think she had something wrong internally just like my Cassidy did. I'm so sorry. The only way to know would be a necropsy.

Beth, I have Orp eggs under Panda. You're welcome to have any pullet I hatch if you want. There are two Dusty eggs and one Smoky under her and she's going to be on Day 6 tomorrow.

Cynthia,
Thank you so much- I really hope it was something internally weird and not some dumb thing that I am doing- I just feel so awful.
I am not into cutting her open alone - DH is at a rehearsal and won't be back till late. Plus I don't think he would be much help, this is not his thing- so I have buried her as close to Buckshot as I could get. Luke stayed with me while I dug and cried, and Ultrasuede kept all the girls away, as I forgot to close the run door while I was digging. Who says chickens are dumb?
And I would LOVE a Smokey or Dusty girl to replace her- thank you so much for that offer. I will take you up on it with tears again- you have all been so helpful and kind.
