I want to get some turkeys as soon as I find some available locally, and was just wondering. Can turkeys brood and raise their young fine all by themselves? and also, are they really self reliant like guineas, where they pretty much take care of themselves? and lastly if I raise eastern wild turkeys will they stick around and roost in the coop? thanks

If you supply a safe nesting/brooding location then, yes, they will brood and raise young (supply water/Gamebird Starter).
They are low maintenance but need to be either fenced/heavily imprinted on you and their run/coop/shed - they can get lost.
It does not matter what variety of turk you get as day-old's. If they thoroughly imprint on you and your place for them they are domestic turkeys and will stick around. If you obtain them as jakes/jennies/adults then I'd suggest 6 ft. fencing and flight netting for a couple of months.

Make sure to check your State's regs on breeding/possession of Easterns before getting them.
