Hi there. We have a blue star who is limping. She started limping a few days ago and we have been helping her rest. Today her ear lobes seem a bit discolored and larger. We lost another chicken recently after she started limping so I may be making more of this than it is but I thought i would check. She is eating and drinking but I'm afraid she is going downhill.

Any insight?

I'm new to this forum and chooks so my suggestions may not be relevant but have you checked for Marek's? I say this becos you had a previous case of limping prior to your blue star. Are/were they exhibiting classic signs of Marek's?

It could just be a physical injury. I recently had a chicken that was limping and she's almost recovered after I got her onto a sling. I included quite a bit of info of what I had done in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/lame-chicken-at-my-wits-end.1445658/. Dunno whether that would help.. just my two cents.

Thanks for the response. I dont think it is Marek's because they were both vaccinated and the other one was much older. I'm pretty sure she got into some ant killer my husband put down. I'm watching out for symptoms though!

Oh dear! 😲 If you really think it's poison, perhaps treating her ASAP with activated charcoal may help. What's the medical advice for accidental ingestion of the ant killer (look at the back of the pack). So in the previous episode, your chooks were also exposed to ant killer?
