Hi all
This morning we found an abandoned keet at the nearby horse stables this morning, baby was very weak (probably hadn't eaten in a while) and the rest of the flock was nowhere to be seen.
We took her in and I tried to feed her egg yolk and growing mash, she refused to eat either and I could only get her to take a very small amount. She drank a little more water but only if I held it against her beak. She also does strange movements where she flips herself over on her back. I've never seen this in chicks before. I really want to help her as best as I can, as soon as possible.
Does anyone know what might be wrong and what I can do?

This is her flipping herself over (I can't post a video unfortunately) it looks very unnatural.

I had a brahma bantam chick that did that the first few days I had her. It scared me to death, and I never figured out why she did it. She stopped after about a week of age. She's 13 weeks old and perfectly healthy.

I'm not familiar with guineas, so I not sure the same steps apply as with chicks. My advice would be to make sure she is warm, offer eager with electrolytes in it, and keep getting to get her to take egg yolk or mash.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. I'm wishing you and the keet the best!

Thank you very much for the advice. Did yours also move her neck around weirdly, almost as if it's seizing? I am going to continue doing what I'm doing and hope for the best, it breaks my heart to see her like this. What is eager?

Wow that should have said water, not eager. I'm sorry! I've got the flu, and apparently my brain is only half working.

She didn't have the weird neck movement, but I wonder if that could be indicative of the start of wry neck? I've never dealt with wry neck. Maybe one of the experts can help.

This group really knows their chickens. Hopefully they can help!

Thank you so much. I wish I could add a video so I can show how she's moving. My main concern is that she's really not wanting to eat

Are there specific electrolytes that you usually use? I think we only have packets meant for people at the moment, I don't know if I can use that

You can mix 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 gallon of water. Dissolve it all well, and you can use that. I use the packets from Tractor Supply. This is it. It's a pack of 3 pouches and it's just over $3, so not expensive.
