Help with aggressive pet duck please

My friend has a very aggressive rooster that would attack her every morning when she would go to the chicken coop, so she started taking her dog ( who is trained not to attack the chickens) with her when she would go out to the coop & the rooster no longer attacks her!! Maybe you could try that if you have a dog that you trust around the ducks??!!
I could try that - we do have a dog, although the chickens and ducks bite her too :hitI think i may give your previous suggestion a go, perhaps rather than going 'ow' i should try going 'shushhhh' or make a hissing sound?

Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of puppies when ducks do certain things. I want to suggest a spritz bottle... but most ducks like water. But then again mine don't like getting squirt with the hose so maybe... and add an unpleasant smell?
I read on a thread recently that someone had a squirt bottle of vinegar that she spraying into the duck's mouth when it was doing that to her. That stopped it! The vinegar shouldn't hurt the duck either.

Id do the hissing because when ducks are mad or annoyed they do it. Maybe giving them a peck with your finger will work too even though that's a chicken trick. Do you give them mealworms or anything? If you can get some, when they're behaving give them a treat, when they're bad walk away with the treats and don't give them any.

Your not a Duck and below them. They are bossy and treat you as a food dispensing machine. Stop hand feeding and get them to respect your space.
I always feed mine in a mineral feeder made for goats or on the ground. I've never been one to hand feed just because I like my personal space and I've had roosters get aggressive when I was hand feeding. Not anymore though. They know if they don't respect my space they'll get no treats, they learned that quickly.

I hand feed often and haven't had any trouble. But every duck and rooster is different.

My only trouble maker has been my Muscovy drake and when that started 8 yrs ago I came here for help and got it. He soon learned to respect me. But ever so often I have to remind him. I haven't actually had any aggressive ducks and only one rooster and he was a big Brahma roo and went on to freezer camp. I guess I have been blessed in that regard. Maybe @WVduckchick has had this in her many Calls? Or @Pyxis @casportpony[/USER] has many ducks also maybe she has advise.

My BJG rooster can be cranky some days. When he is I walk back in the house and don't even give them scraps. He comes to the kitchen window and wants to be friendly after he realizes. I've learned that chickens and ducks are much smarter than humans give them credit for.

Yes they are. My oldest rooster loves to come to the back door asking for a handout. He's always been a good boy with us humans. But all he has to do is jump at the ducks and they back off and he is game/game bantam so not very big but he has attitude. lol

Sounds like your roo is letting you know he is going to be a good boy! That's sweet.

We handfeed all of our ducks and chickens and have rested these two from eggs so I’m sure this is not the issue. I’ve just taken a video to show you their aggression but byc won’t let the file upload.. is there somewhere I can put it for you to view?
