Help with aggressive rooster

We have a rooster we got when he was a couple months old he was housed with bantam hens he is a mix between barred rock and rir he was a bit on the smaller side and scared of everything always running n hiding n ducking his head in corners when we got him we have bantam hens and and golden comet hens also and an ee roo that is older after a few days the two roos got along and everyone was ok but the younger roo just steered clear of every one well its a different story now...... Hormones kicked in he grew he is enormous in size never stops crowing he has beat up the ee roo (which he makes up 3 in size easily) so bad he was close to death we had to take him out and nurse him back he is fine now but still seperated he is non stop on top of the girls and has broken almost all the wing feathers off they and back feathers missing they look like someone threw them in a plucker it's just sad he is not aggressive with us at all I understand hormones kicking in and him doing what he needs to do but I think hes in overdrive...... Could separating him for a while help we were thinking putting our ee roo back in flock now that he is healthy because he is gentle with the girls and does his job and seperate the young one giving him time to cool off alone in a seperate pen........ Any suggestions appreciated

From your description I would, indeed, separate that rooster from the hens, but I doubt he will cool off anytime soon. He would do better in a larger flock of hens. Consider finding him a new home as your EE rooster sounds the better bird as far as personality goes.

the ee rooster was very aggressive towards us us when we got him but never the hen he would even get the other roo to back off when he started mounting but he has came around to getting along with us it's just now this one has gotten out of control with his hormones our hens are ragged our ee roo is ready to go back in with his girls and I have 2 hens sitting on clutches of eggs as we speak so that also worries me iv never had a young roo do this before so didn't know if we waited it out and seperated him and kinda give home a cooling off period if he would eventually calm back down...... If that's not the case.. we don't let our chickens free range their coop and run is more than the space they need I almost wander about letting him free range on our land and see how he does

I'd separate him. I wouldn't allow an animal to continuously damage others. The Roos job is to take care of the ladies and seems this young roo has no consideration. You can try keeping him separate and free ranging him, but would he just spend his days trying to get back to the ladies? But I can't give too much advice since I just started in chickens and I have two EE cockrels that have grown up together and are just now 10 weeks old. But if one was hurting the ladies, he'd have to go.

I think that you have solved your own problem. It's a hard decision to make, I know because I have had to recently deal with the same problem in our flock. Which to keep with the hens and which roosters to exile to the bachelor pen.

A cooling off period for the more aggressive rooster may work. I would remove him from battering your hens and give you a chance to observe the EE roo with them.

If he is a gentler breeder then you know which one you need to keep with the girls.

If only roosters were as easy to manage as hens are....

yes our ee roo is better he was with our hens he actually came with half our hens when we got them but the other roo has just hit hormones and almost killed him is the only reason he was taken out and actually the only place we had to put him was in our other coop with 9 week old guinea keets and he has taken up nicely with them and they have enjoyed his company so maybe thinking adding them all back together lol once he is back to 100% which he acts pretty close its been a week now
