Help with bidding issues

Oh, dont go away mad. Please.

I think I can explain it better now.

The other bidder used a ceiling bid of lets say $12.00
And the bid increments are pre set so when you put in your high bid it just shows yours being jumped because theirs was already higher.

It wouldnt show theirs until you trumped it.

Does that help?

That's messed up...so I'm just wasting my time and I don't even know it...
What if my max is 7, it don't tell me someone else has bid that much....just wastes time.
No, no longer wasting my time with that bid...nor the other if it does the same thing...for get that...
thanks anyway

The auction is working as it should. If you are bidding and shows you are outbid, you either need to bid higher or decide it is too much.

What I will do is decide the max I would spend on something and just put that in, which is likely what the high bidder did. Your next bid must be at least what is says but you may need to bid more than the minimum to overtake the high bidder..

So if the high bidder there put in $20 as the max they will spend and you put in $15, then they are still the high bidder. IT just goes up as you bid.

If the high bid is $6 but the high bidder will spend $20, the bid go up as someone places another bid,. like you did.

The system doesn't tell you what the high bid is because that is not the purpose of an auction. Everyone wants to pay as low as possible, yet setting a max they would pay if they had to.

Modified from Ebay's explanation

How automatic bidding works

When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. The seller and other bidders don’t know your maximum bid.

We’ll place bids on your behalf using the automatic bid increment amount, which is based on the current high bid. We'll bid only as much as necessary to make sure that you remain the high bidder, or to meet the reserve price, up to your maximum amount.

If another bidder places the same maximum bid or higher, we’ll notify you so you can place another bid. Your maximum bid is kept confidential until it is exceeded by another bidder.

Example

1. The current bid for an item is $10.00. Tom is the high bidder, and has placed a maximum bid of $12.00 on the item. His maximum bid is kept confidential from other members.

2. Laura views the item and places a maximum bid of $15.00. Laura becomes the high bidder.

3. Tom’s bid is incremented to his maximum of $12.00. Laura’s bid is now $12.50.

4. We send Tom a PM that he has been outbid. If he doesn’t raise his maximum bid, Laura wins the item.

Secuono~~~it is frustrating to be losing to a member who posts NOTHING about themselves. Since eggbid shut down, there's been alot of new bidders on BYC that are only here to buy off auction. I noticed that about a month ago when I kept losing egg auctions to what I refer to as "invaders"---they don't want to be part of the community, they just want to buy eggs. It's their choice entirely, and no rule against it. I prefer to buy on BYC because I feel I "know" the person I'm buying from because of our interactions on the many forums.

Read through terrielacy's explanation a few times and it will make sense.

Sorry you're having a bad experience...

I already understand how it works. I'm done biding on eggs. Will contact sellers directly instead to see if they have other eggs to sell straight.
