Help with breed and possible egg production

Yes! Calcium chips and egg layer feed. Nesting boxes are a definite plus or they will lay eggs on the ground. You can find all of this at your local feed store. We also have a flock block in with ours, it's just a block of feed and minerals. But don't make that the primary feed source, they need the layer feed. Calcium chips should be placed in a separate feeder so they have access when they need it.

You're welcome! Now it's just a 'wait and see' game. Be sure to remove any eggs daily from the nest box to avoid broodiness and maximize egg production. Please keep us updated and show-off the first egg. Best of luck! (Cochins are known for broodiness, so as a precaution you may want to look into ways to avoid or break the habit).

Hi welcome to byc. We have 8 barred rock and they each lay about 6 large brown eggs a week. And yes the stress from the move and the heat can slow down there egg laying. :weee
