Hello!

I'm new to chickens and just got my first 4 buff opringtons this week. We have a friend who is a carpenter that is willing to help us build a coop, but I need a blueprint or idea first.

I've seen several online that are paid plans, and I'm hoping that someone out of the kindness for a newbie, would be willing to help?

The coop section here is awesome, but I'm having a hard time finding specific blueprint plans.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Just throwing out ideas here:

You can start with a wood lawn shed.... your carpenter friend probably could build one out without plans...

Purena offers free plans

Find a coop that you like and show it to your carpenter.... I betcha he could draw his own plans from it.

Just remember plan for more than you have because Chicken math will surely catchup with you.

My personal preference is to have a space I can walk in to without ducking and having a partition for feed and bedding and puttering...

Good luck show some pix to your carpenter....

Remember ventilation ventilation ventilation... I have a friend here on BYC that keeps chickens in Alaska... No insulation no heat lamp only a place where they can group together to cuddle during a cold night. Oh and ventilation does not mean drafty...

Good luck there are some excellent designs here as well as excellent builders here...

Thanks Deb! I tried to find the Purina ones but it kept looping me on their website back to the main page.

As far as chicken math, we are only allowed to have 4 in our city so right now that's all we will be getting  stupid city rules.

I'm sure he could draw one, but I'm already having to pay him in beer, so I figured I'd save myself some money hahahaha

I do alot of payin in Beer... LOL... and the occasional bottle of Gin.

Ok here is more than you will ever need.... LOL. I had to do a link because the URL is about half of this whole window....

Thanks a lot for this link, I have spent the last year or so on and off trying to find a some kind of blueprint to adjust and build a coop with no luck, and finally lucked upon this post. We are now looking at getting ducks instead of chickens but other than extra space per bird these blueprints are just what I have been looking for.
Im only semi DIY and need something to base my work on lol

Thanks again
Wellman

You are welcome...

And for what its worth... If you find a good photo you can do a pretty accurate estimate of what and how it was built by starting with something you recognize size wise... I have done this many times for my own designs.

Then just grab some grid paper and look at the squares... depending on size of the design I usually designate one square to be four inches. then just hand sketch. The picture may not be accurate but the human eye is very accurate... You don't even need a ruler or even a straight edge.

or maybe because i am a designer I just take things for granted because I did so many years of it.

Any way drop me a line if you want some help...
