help with deep litter method (pics too)

Good job on the run.

Keep you eye open for when the utility co. is having the trees trimmed in your area and then approach the crew about dumping a load at your place. I hate spending money on bedding for my chickens to poo on and have always scrounged. I use wood chips, forest duff, pulled weeds, dead plants, basically, any organic matter that is suitable. I also mix in "used" shavings from the barn where I keep my horse. It it is mostly shavings with horse poos mixed in. It has been partially composted and if full of good bacteria, and the chickens enjoy tearing up the horse poos.

Good idea. We have a lot of logging around here but I never see wood chips tho
 


I left the covered part of the run bare - it never really gets wet and my thought would be that they can go over there to get out of the forest if need be (but they'll probably throw all the stuff over there eventually tho...
That is what mine do, in the run and the coop. Everything gets tossed to the right. I have to move it ever so often.

haha crazy birds! Ours love it so far. Only problem so far is I throw them food and the smaller stuff like scratch they cant see very well over the bedding materials
