if you get an old kitty litter box put 100 percent food grade Diatomaceous Earth, the white kind, and set it in a cool area protected from the elements they will use it. DE also help get rid of any tick or mites or fleas and when they eat it they are de-wormed.

Do you mean only DE? I know some chose to add it to thier mix but I would think just DE would be kinda rough for the respiratory Their is a bit of confusion around about DE and deworming but some believe it can prevent risk of worms and mites ( IDK don’t personally prefer use it for my chickens) but doesn’t get rid of worms already in the system.

Tough on tiny respiratory systems but definitely won't cure an infestation of worms.

I just started using DE in my coop is this a bad idea? My chicks are 9 weeks old and have dug plenty of dustbathing holes we have very fine soil they love it! I would like to find out what I should use in place of DE? I am new at BYC this is my first try at raising chickens any suggestions would be great.

The jury is out on DE. It is effective on some soft bodied bugs in a dry environment but can also cause respiratory irritation.
Gardeners have used it to control slugs and snails as long as I've been alive. I used it but wasn't sure how good it was.
Just dry fine soil is sufficient for dust bathing. Most important is that they have a dry place to do so.
The mix I suggested earlier in this thread is for use in a tub in a coop or run where chickens don't have access to dry soil.
