I so did not know you could do this. I know you can to tell if unfertilized eggs are spoiled or good, but never knew it could be applied to hatching eggs!
I am too afraid to bother Izzy's eggs anymore, because it irritates her, and I don't want to keep messing with the eggs. Today is just now day 28 for mine, so I will give them more time.
However, the OP should DEFINITELY try this, as she has nothing to lose, and no mama duck to contend with. Would love to hear the results!
I thought read somewhere here you shouldn't do this with eggs you are intending to hatch I'll have to try that when I get home. There's one that has a crack in the shell that I believe has been there a while, and it's the only one starting to smell, so I'm sure that one is dead. The other ones I will have to try that with. Thanks Miss Lydia for the link!
Yes, aduckstolemyheart, I'm sure it is the same Valentino. And if it's the same Valentino I looked up last night, he just recently died due to colic. Which is sooooooo sad! A little Arab schooling horse my mom and I used to lease died of colic. Mom cried for a long time, and she was out of town when she found out, which almost made it worse.
And on the topic of purchasing ducklings As I mentioned earlier, a girl at my school got a little duckling which we believe to be a Cayuga. Other kids have been getting ducklings too, so I'm thinking that if these turn up dead I will use my sadness to guilt trip my parents into getting me a duckling to raise. And when it grows up, I'm almost positive we could find a good home for it if my parents won't let me keep it. Somewhere I can go see it and I can keep track of it easily, unlike my chick from kindergarten...
