We bought the Priemer one electro net fencing, 2 25' pieces and 1 100' piece. We tested the energizer with both of the 25' pieces and it worked fine stretched out along our garden. We set up our fencing around our coop and run and tested it with the 5 light tester that we got from them and nothing. I've checked everything and its not touching any metal anywhere, called priemer and they say it has to be touching metal somewhere or we would get some reading. Took everything down and stretched out the 100' section along the garden where I know there is no metal and it doesn't work at all so we set up the two 25' pieces just around the coop thinking that would work, but no when we tested those two, nothing. I'm pulling my hair out, we worked for 4 hours out there in the blazing sun and nothing works. The only thing can think that might be doing it is were it crosses the water line coming down from the house or the electric line that goes into the coop, but both of them are under ground and Priemer says its should not bother the fence. Any suggestions, cause my chickens are going out of the house and into the coop tonight electric fence or not.

Check your ground (as in pour water around it) to see if you've got it grounded well. Also, if you have a 'slight' touch you can sometimes find it by spraying down the fence and where it is only close enough to arc, but not touch, you might hear a snapping noise as it arcs. Sometimes you can also see the arcing better at night in the dark. But if there's arcing, it will usually also make a snapping noise.

Start at the charger and disconnect the wires.

Test between the posts to make sure the charger is actually working. (and also that the TESTER is actually working)

Now reconnect the lead wire and ground wire, and test from the end of the wire to the ground rod.

If that tests OK, connect to the fence.

If your ground is really dry, you may have to put the ground probe on the tester deep in the ground, or touch it to one of the alternating ground wires in the fence.

If none of that lights up the tester, touch the fence with the back of your hand

I suspect the problem is the tester itself, or the grounding isn't good enough
