Cary, NC is finally heading down the path of changing the ordinances to allow chickens. The potential ordinance is currently 6 hens, $50 yearly fee, and coop setbacks that varying with property zoning.

A member of the planning & zoning committee has asked me about ordinances for other towns to serve as a comparison. It is very time consuming to find and read the ordinances for other towns, but relatively easy to find out the rules in your own town. If we all post details of our town's ordinance, this thread could be a useful reference.

If your town allows chickens, please respond and answer the following questions.

1. What town and state are you in?

2. How many chickens are allowed?

3. Is a permit required? Is there a permit or annual fee?

4. Are there any setback requirements?

5. If available online, please link to your town's ordinances
