Hi all, we have a new “city flock” and built a very secure coop using 1/2” hardware mesh buried in the ground, fully enclosed run area, lockable, etc.

I’m looking for advice on creating a small run/fence area that the chickens can be out during the day. We are planning on using the green metal u-posts and attaching some kind of fencing to it, do you think a 2”x4” fence is ok or should I do something with smaller openings like 2”x2”? Again, they will only be out during the day and we plan on locking them in their coop before dusk. Any other advice to help keep predators away?

Will this area be covered on top as well? If not, it should pretty tall unless you planning on doing some wing clipping. There are alot of factors to consider when it comes to how secure your day time area should be - are you home most of the day, do you have a dog that hangs out outside during the day, do you have a fenced in yard, do you have any woods or undeveloped areas around your neighborhood, how close are your neighbors, etc.
