We have a little rooster who has just turned 9 weeks. He has the sweetest disposition, loves to be held and has been crowing for a few weeks now. We purchased him from a feed store that buys from Ideal Poultry and he was sold as an "Assorted Bantam." Does his breed look familiar to anyone?

Thanks for the help!

I agree with OEGB. Coincidently I have one that was IDENTICAL to this guy. Now he is 3 months old and has some orange and Dark Gray Specks on him..Splash is what I was thinking.

Thanks for the replies! He really is the sweetest thing, I'm hoping his attitude doesn't change. How big does this breed normally get? He hasn't grown much and all the pullets we have tower over him. However, that doesn't stop him from getting after them!

Thanks again!

Your bird is lavender which is caused by a recessive gene. It takes two recessive genes in a bird to cause a recessive trait to be expressed. You would have to breed him with another lavender bird or a bird that carries(only has one recessive gene) lavender to get more lavender birds. If you cross the bird to a lavender bird 100% will be lavender while crossing to a carrier will only produce about 50% lavender. The other 50% would be basically a black bird.

Your lavender bird is a black bird under the lavender color.
