I have 2 hens that have both been laying eggs. One was sitting on them until the first chick hatched about 3 weeks ago. That one only made it a few days. Then I had 2 more hatch one of which had something wrong with it as it never chirped or swallow. The one that made it was getting down from the coop with my help during the day and the hen was taking care of it to make sure it ate. It was 1 1/2 weeks old and it just disappeared. I have them in a 10X20 dog kennel with a Amish build chicken coop that's off the ground about 3 feet and plastic mesh wire over the top of the whole thing. That one did good as the weather was nice and warm during the day and I put a heat lamp in the coop at night but the hen took good care of it. Yesterday I went to let them out and there was a new chick in there. Now it's about 57 degrees here during the day and constant raining so I've got it setup to where it cannot come out of the coop. This morning a second chick hatched and I put it with the hen that's keeping up with the other chick. I just checked on it and she let it get cold so I've brought it in and have it under a heat lamp but I don't think it will make it as it got to cold. What should I do with the one that's left? Will it do OK if I bring it into the house by itself? I noticed when a chick hatches the hen sitting will get off the eggs quiet a bit. There are 8 eggs left now and I'm not sure when they will hatch. I do not have a incubator for the eggs or I would bring them in to hatch since it's gotten cold. I feel helpless for these poor chicks.
