Help with labrador coloring

Our pups did not get tested but the parents have been. We had hips x rayed . They then send the x rays in, your given a number which is attached to the dogs file. (OFA)
But since this is about some selling yellow and chocolate . Not about my personal dogs will just leave it at. Some one will surely pay the money. But if they know enough they will know they wont darken. Since she is you friend try telling her to be honest. Yellow labs seem to sell better at least in this area. I however prefer the black myself. Did she at least get the dewclaws removed ?

Ok. I was just wondering. The only testing done on most puppies might be a temperament test done several times between 5-12 weeks of age. Good for you for doing the adult dog testing before you breed. Everyone needs to do that.

Love my Critters! :

A friend of mine's dog just had puppies. The parents are both registered yellow labradors. The male is darker than the female, but is still yellow. She had 9 pups and 5 of them are a light cream color like the mom, and the others are a darker tan/rust color. She is selling these pups for 700 each! Well she is advertising that the darker ones are chocolate and I don't think they are even close to chocolate. She is telling people they will darken. I don't think she's right... what do yall think?

If I could chime in here...the pups won't darken. If anything, they will lighten when exposed to excessive sunshine, much like your hair lightens in the summer.

True Chocolates are born chocolate, their nose is also chocolate. (A recognized color standard, btw).

Yellows (including redish yellow or fox red and cream or light yellow and white) have black noses; the breed standard. (If chocolate lines were mixed in somewhere you end up with a lighter colored or washed out nose on yellows...a fault).

True chocolate pups can only be born of chocolate or black (chocolate factored) dogs.

Please note: I am in no way encouraging backyard breeding! Especially females under 3 years old. JMHO

Also, if they cannot be registered the parents were most likely purchased on what's called a limited registration...where as the pups cannot compete or be sold for top bloodline dollar... The original "responsible" breeder(s) is protecting her lines/her investments of which include extensive research and selective pairing of generations of clear hip/elbow & eyes as the typical labbie problems are breed out of the lines. We are talking quality here.

PS Beautiful pictures souperchicken!
