Yes, this is worth a try. Thank you, chickwhispers. I just want to make sure I understand. The one inch gap would be between the insulation and the metal roof, right?

Correct. That gives a layer of "Air" insulation to buffer the temperature differences. The air bubbles in the "bubble" insulation does that as an extra measure. The foil reflects the heat/cold temperatures back into each space. And the foil/bubble stuff is weather proof. It will also help keep the area cooler in the summer.
