Help with mixed breed identificaiton- Hatched my own chicks (heavy on the pics)

How old are the chicks? And those are the only two roosters?

I think the black one is male. It should have a black momma, and he dad is Willie.

the red is a pullet, Willie is the father, momma is probably solid Red but I'm not positive.

next bird is a pullet. I'm thinking Willie and the brown Leghorn hen.

next is a pullet, I can't see her legs very well. Willie is the father, not sure on the momma. Maybe the buff Orp.

Two cockerels, Willie over maybe the brown Leghorn hen again.

The last two are cockerel, and my guess would be Willie and the gold laced Cochin.

Looks like poor Johnny's not getting much lovin'

They are 8 weeks old. And yes they are the only roosters. Johnny had a preference for the other silkies so I didn't put many of those eggs under since I don't really want more. But there's one little black that's all silkie.

I'm sad the black on is a cockerel! I love my australorp!
What do you think Willie is? He's a mix too. It doesn't really matter I just want to keep anyone who might lay dark brown or colored eggs!

I'd forgotten there was a Wellie momma, I was just seeing that Leghorn. That could easily be the momma of that brown chick as suggested above.

Willie looks like an Easter egger mix. I'm guessing he had one parent who was yellow legged and straight combed. He has a pea comb, but straight comb is recessive and he threw straight combed chicks, so he's got to be carrying that.

Pea comb is linked to colored eggs. Since he's a mix, he could easily only have one blue egg gene (or possibly none), so only half his pullets will lay green eggs (from a brown egger momma).
The little chick from the Wellie momma may lay colored eggs, or possibly dark eggs. I'd keep her.

Not sure how many you're intending to keep, but I only see three pullets there I think. Myself, I'd keep them all until they start laying then decide who I want. If you need to think the flock earlier, I'd sell the buff cross and the red pullet, if they both have straight combs.

Thank you! That was super helpful! I don't know any of that stuff! There are 12 chicks but these were the ones that looked like they could be a cockerel. The other ones I'm more sure are pullets even though last time I thought one was a pullet it was Willie!

Oh you're welcome. I love hatching my own mixes, I'm going on several generations now. I love the different colors, and playing "who's the momma/daddy".

donrae, they could use you on the Maury Povich show - they are always trying to figure out who's the daddy LOL. And you don't need to run DNA tests. :)

P.S. I hate that show but, my dad used to watch all the time - reruns and everything.

I think I'd draw the line at that. Too much DRAMA, something I try to avoid in my life!

Besides, my chickens are much better behaved than most of the folks that go on those shows
