O my, my DH and I picked one up as well and I was scared to death today because the chick is panting like crazy while all the other lil' ones are perfectly happy, I did have to bath his underside today because we originally started out with the water on the bottom of brooder but moved it up onto a block today because all they do is poo in it and get it all over themselves, silly chicks, so I was afraid it was something I had done:/ but from this post and the others I read on the subject I guess that's just the way they are (?) I do find the possibility of him having a heart attack very scary( as stated on that welp hatchery website), do I really have to restrict his feed ? This is my first time with chicks so obv. a new experience for me, up until now we were wondering exaclty what the heck a panting chicken looked like, lol, now that I see it I don't like it
