I went out to see my chickens and noticed my rooster in the corner. Not normal for him! As I got closer I realized that one eye is missing or completely swollen and his cone has black spots all over it. I don't remember seeing it yesterday, or this morning, but I don't always check out each one every time I'm in there.

Does this sound like something got at him or is this a symptom of a disease? We've only had our flock for about 4 months so this is all new to us.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or even what to look for or check out.

Thanks!

Im not sure what it could be....but I would seperate him from the rest, untill you get it figured out. Can you post pics? Sounds like he was in a fight maybe?? Do you have other roos?

I found my rooster with his eye shut and comb covered in black. Took him in and washed him off and it melted away. My rooster got in a fight or something and split the middle top of his comb open about 3/4 of an inch and it dribbled all over his face and sealed his eye.

If it does not wash off, then it is probably pox... it may also be wounds (thinking of swollen eye also) from a bad fight.
